The Ottawa, Canada singer Sherri Harding uses blues, soul and R&B to her advantage for these 11 authentic songs that surround love, resilience and the world we live in.
The upbeat beat mood of “All Around The World” opens with Steve Herrman’s bright trumpet that suits Harding’s soulful singing and Kelvin Holly’s meticulous guitar, and “Down In The Shoals” follows with plenty of rhythm thanks to Rob Holtz’s intricate bass, Brian Cooper’s well timed dobro and Harding’s powerful pipes.
In the middle is where “Rainy Day” and “Dark-Eyed Junco” reside. The former benefits from Jamie Holmes’ thumping drums and Robert Farrell’s lively keys, while the latter sees Harding handling flute via the warm and stylish album highlight that welcomes backing vocals.
Arriving late, the intimate “Tell Me You’re Mine” places Brad McGuin on sax and Anne Lindsay on violin in the heartfelt climate, and the title track exits with plenty of bluesy swagger amid Harding’s soaring voice and guitars from Farrell, Holly and Darwin Demers.
A very mature effort that’s all heart and soul, Harding’s singing is unparalleled and the superb band help flesh out songs that draw similarities to Bonnie Raitt and Susan Tedeschi.
