This debut from the Austin indie folk-pop duo Deer Fellow brings electric guitar, violin and vocal harmonies to 12 very sincere tracks.
“Fool For You” opens with much elegance from Alyssa Kelly’s stirring strings and Matt Salois’ drumming via the gentle climate, and “Invisible” follows with Salois’ cozy acoustic guitar amid Kelly’s soulful pipes.
Closer to the middle, “Beautiful Gray” lands in intimate territory thanks to the heartfelt singing and dreamy guitar, while “Easier” is a charming duet of beauty and folk-friendly ideas that are gripping.
Arriving late, “So Low” invites ambience alongside the rich layers and mature interaction between the pair, and the title track exits with an orchestral version of indie-rock that’s melodic and weaves in and out of pretty textures.
A lyrically vulnerable and musically lush effort, Kelly and Salois are really onto something with their unique brand of indie-folk that embraces chamber and bedroom-pop nods with much care and timelessness.
