The Northern California blues outfit, Carmen Ratti Band, are joined by Jill Dineen’s sturdy pipes for this 2nd studio album.
Ratti’s bright guitar opens the rich climate of “No Delusion”, where Dineen’s expressive voice suits Steve Hazlewood’s frisky bass, and “Get In Line” follows with a soulful quality via the flowing vocals and Randy Hayes’ lively drumming.
Later on, the powerful “Riley” blends colorful guitar and a stylish rhythm section amid the melodic spirit, while “Coming Down” pairs grit and harmonics alongside the soaring singing in a timeless blues climate.
Arriving late, “Uncle Joe” carries reflective nods that align with Tony “Macaroni” Lufrano’s moody keys, and “Come To Me (Extended Version)” exits with a dreamy intimacy that tugs on the heartstrings in its authentic and cautious demeanor.
Even though the album is steeped in the blues, we’re also treated to soul, gospel, rock and funk as Ratti and company use grooves, dynamics and emotion to their advantage.
