Listen to Volume Six: The Teacher And His Disciples

This 6th album from the Choir Of Girton College, Cambridge explores the works of the Italian of Renaissance legend Marc’ Antonio Ingegneri that surrounds Christ’s relationship with his disciples.

“Ego sum pastor bonus á6” opens with the harmonizing voices of the choir alongside The Western Wyndes, who layer their instruments with much beauty and grace, and it isn’t long until “Credo” moves cautiously via the powerful singing and rich wind interaction.

Further on, Gabriel Kennedy’s skilled organ populates “Quando da’bei vostr’occhi i dolci sguardi”, while “Sanctus- Benedictus” offers stirring vocals and melodic wind gestures that mesh with incredible detail.

Close to the end, Ben Nolan’s tonally strong organ guides the warm spirit of “Parto da voi”, and “Ascendit Deus á6” exits with a distinct dreaminess.

Ingegneri’s vision is just as exceptional as his peers, Palestrina and Lassus, and it’s fleshed out here with an extremely moving demeanor thanks to the choir, Western Wyndes, Gareth Wilson’s direction and Jeremy West as leader.

Travels well with: Artur Lemba- Chamber Music, Volume Two: Works For String Quartet And Piano; Havergal Brian- Complete Choral Songs, Volume Two
