Listen to Chamber Music, Volume Two: Works For String Quartet And Piano
The overlooked and under appreciated work of Artur Lemba is illuminated for a 2nd release, and this time we’re treated to 3 involved pieces thanks to M4gnet String Quartet and Sten Lassmann.
“String Quartet in F-Sharp Minor” opens with the quartet’s meticulous strings interacting with much warmth and dexterity, where Mart Kuusma’s viola won’t go unnoticed across the 9 quick and detailed chapters.
“Piano Quartet In C Minor” arrives in the middle and allows for Lassman’s firm and dynamic keys to complement the setting that makes great use of Robert Traksmann and Katariina Maria Kits’ animated violins.
“Piano Quintet In D Major” exits with 3 segments, as Lassmann’s dancing fingers align with the playful strings that allow for Siluan Hirvoja’s cello to shine.
An assembly of timeless chamber pieces, even in his native Estonia Lemba didn’t see the recognition he deserved, but these posthumous albums will hopefully rectify that.
Travels well with: Havergal Brian- Complete Choral Songs, Volume Two; David Hackbridge Johnson- Orchestral Music, Volume Four
