Listen to It Could Happen To You

The singer and trumpeter Christine Fawson is joined by Tim Ray, Dave Zinno and Casey Scheuerell for these 11 jazz standards that offers subtle surprises along the way.

The playful energy of “It Could Happen To You” opens with Fawson’s rich trumpet and smooth voice alongside Ray’s flowing keys, and “It’s All Right With Me” follows with Scheuerell’s frisky drumming that suits the expressive singing.

In the middle, “My Heart Stood Still” brings talking into the charming climate that makes great use of Dave Zinno’s animated bass, while “You’ve Changed” showcases Fawson’s incredibly adaptable pipes amid the bright keys and intimacy.

“Oh, Lady Be Good” and “Every Time We Say Goodbye” exit the listen. The former is a quick bout where the meticulous rhythm section is met with scatting and trumpet bursts, and the latter is a gentle moment of sublime beauty and poetic singing that’s matched by mature keys and calm drumming.

This is Fawson’s 5th album as leader and it’s a diverse setting that can tug on the heartstrings just as it can get you searching for the dance floor via her infectious performance.
