The Brazilian guitarist, vocalist and percussionist Sergio Pereira invites a lot of players for this cultured album that uses samba, bossa nova and jazz to his advantage.
The elegant mood of “So They Sleep” opens with Pereira’s dreamy vocals alongside Chipi Chacón’s bright trumpet and Juanito Ruiz’s clarinet helping cultivate a rich climate, and “Dreams” follows with Kim Nazarian’s distinct voice amid Marcelo Martins’ soprano sax making for much warmth.
“Brightness Of You” and “Up The Hill” land in the middle. The former welcomes Ales Cesarini’s cozy acoustic bass plus Alberto Palau’s graceful keys that complement the scatting, while the latter enlists Frederika Krier’s well timed violin and Zachary Brown’s skilled cello for the album’s best that’s lush and harmonic.
Residing near the end, “Keep Shining” places Mark Egan on bass and Dan Pugach on drums in a very sophisticated and melodic delivery, and “Rain Fall” exits with Mauricio Zottarelli’s frisky drumming and percussion that suits the worldly demeanor and charming interaction.
Pereira uses his Brazilian heritage to his advantage, and employs a cohesive approach that touches on healing ideas and plenty of global allure.
