Listen to Get Over It, Underdog

The Grammy Nominee Aaron Lee Tasjan blends social commentary and introspective tales across these 11 new songs that recruits plenty of help for the thoughtful rock record.

“Science Fiction” opens the listen with elegant strings and warm guitar before Tasjan’s laidback voice enters the gracefulness, and “Clown Show” follows with a thicker approach, where Fred Eltringham’s agile drums suits the waves of melody.

Arriving in the middle, the dense guitar licks of “Twilight Zone Blues” gets a bit more rugged and embraces Jimmy Boland’s sax, while “Ballad Of An East Canton Lowlife” is indeed a bit calmer but in a scrappy way via the thumping drums and sing-along appeal.

Getting deeper, “Can She Get An Amen” welcomes Theo Katzman’s backing vocals to the soulful and orchestral fueled album highlight that breeds it’s own kind of gospel, and “The Dream Comes True” exits with a piano focused and poetic mood, where Tasjan’s heartfelt approach is much appreciated.

An album that is all substance, Tasjan buries plenty of melancholy around these diverse and sincere songs that are very much influenced by the late, great Todd Snider, who was a mentor to Tasjan.
