The Pennsylvania guitarist and composer Mike Lorenz is joined by Sandy Eldred and Matt Scarano for these 10 improvised tunes that search for comfort, empathy, and beauty in these turbulent times.
“Where Do You Go?” starts the listen with Lorenz’s warm guitar before Scarno’s well timed drums enter the cautiousness, and “We Used To Talk All The Time” follows with playful strumming and crisp drums alongside Eldred’s frisky bass lines that help cultivate a charming rhythm.
“I Don’t Have Time To Love You” occupies the middle spot and is a soft moment that builds into a distinct dreaminess via the meticulous guitar, while “Close The Book” uses acoustic guitar amid the cozy rhythm section for an album highlight that touches on folk-rock.
“Renovated Heart” and “Beta” exit the record. The former employs plenty of melody which suits the timeless jazz appeal, and the latter is an animated moment that illustrates a strong chemistry between the trio.
There’s a lot of history between these 3 musicians, and the songs they deliver here are authentic, diverse and carry a spontaneous energy that ends entirely too soon.
