Listen to New Orleans Sessions

The Canadian Juno Award winners Blue Moon Marquee tip their hat to the Big Easy Sound here, where A.W. Cardinal and Jasmine Colette turn in 10 songs with the help of an all star cast of New Orleans’ best.

“Black Rat Swing” opens the listen with animated keys and spirited guitar that suits Cardinal’s soulful and expressive pipes, and “Ain’t Going Down” follows with an infectious energy via the crisp drums and the call and response singing that will get you on the dance floor.

The middle track belongs to “Trickster Coyote” and benefits much from Big Jon Atkison’s in a gritty climate, while “What I Wouldn’t Do” allows for BC Coogan’s mature keys to shine amid the intimacy and Danny Abrams’ well timed sax.

“Some Ol’ Day” and “Got The Blues So Bad” exit the listen. The former is packed with raw southern flavor via the rich blues, and the latter blends the emotive harmonica and meticulous guitar licks with timeless blues.

A very authentic effort, the recording process was just as primitive as the tunes, as Blue Moon Marquee continue to impress us with their swing, boogie, honky tonk, folk and country meshing that few others could replicate.
