The Polish-Australian pianist and composer, Jan Grabowski, bridges improvisation and feeling across these 7 fusion filled tracks.
“My Dearest Christine” opens with Grabowski’s warm keys alongside Andy Wilder’s flowing drums and plenty of grooves, and “Forward Voyage” follows Emir Santa Cruz’s rich tenor sax and Samer Sharawi’s frisky electric bass making an impression.
Moving into the middle, “Monsieur Green” moves cautiously yet playfully thanks to the meticulous keys and Noam Tanzer’s animated acoustic bass plucking, while “Counting Sevens”, the album’s best, embraces style, grace and adventurousness thanks to the charming rhythm section and soulful sax bouts.
At the end, “Happy Beluga” will get you on the dance floor with its abundance of rhythm and Kali Rodriguez-Pena’s radiant trumpet.
A jazz fusion effort unlike any other, Grabowski and crew cover a lot of territory in a short duration, and its ever changing time signatures, funk moments and spontaneous energy is difficult to forget.
