We Will Not Forget

The always prolific Stanley Grill returns with a body of work originally composed for duduk and string orchestra, the 7 tracks here were penned in 2020, when Hamas was once again firing missiles at Israel, and recruits Javier Oviedo and the New York Classical Players.
The title track starts the listen with stirring strings, where much emotion and depth is present, as Oviedo’s touching soprano sax guides the beauty and warmth.
“When The War Ends, We Will Dance Again” lands in the middle and radiates plenty of optimism, as the setting shifts from soft and introspective to flowing and upbeat via the meticulous interactions between the players.
The final 2 pieces, “Serenade”, brings back the soprano sax for a rich and agile finish that’s plenty melodic, and makes strategic use of plucked strings and fluid oboe playing.
A symphonic and heartfelt body of work that explores a time when Russian soldiers no longer occupy Ukrainian homes and Ukrainians can reside in freedom, Grill again creates a contemporary classical affair that’s highly relevant.
Travels well with: Stanley Grill- Die Erste Elegie; Stanley Grill- Ahimsa
