Listen to Survol à basse altitude

The pianist Jérémie Ternoy is joined by Nicolas Mahieux and Charles Duytschaever for this 3rd album that balances clarity, balance, and meaning across 6 very atypical jazz fueled tracks.

“Au seuil” opens with Ternoy’s swirling keys and plenty of background ambience that recruits Mahieux’s unpredictable bass playing, and “Rotation” follows with the scrappy drums from Duytschaever adding much to the melodic landscape.

“Survol à basse altitude” lands in the middle, and spends 8+ minutes drawing us into its sublime beauty and lush textures that eventually builds into a busy, nearly chaotic performance, while “Périlleux” emits a cinematic quality thanks to the meticulous keys and frisky rhythm section.

“Voile” exits and it’s a mesmerizing bout of gentle gestures and emotive ebbs of serenity that are captivating.

An effort where all 3 players contribute their respective talents in spades, the collective approach yields another batch of avant-garde and experimental exploration.
