The New York City composer Laurie Altman sees their work interpreted by soprano, piano and guitar, where the diverse tracks provide a suitable soundtrack to the hustle and bustle of New York City.
After the quick spoken intro “Poem: Intro”, by Altman, “Smile” follows with Altman’s piano and Isabel Pfefferkorn’s stunning vocals making for much grace and beauty.
In the middle, “Inside Things” allows for Pfefferkorn’s powerful voice to mesmerize us without any instruments, while “Autumn Leaves” illuminates Altman’s sensitive piano playing that shines amid much richness.
Arriving late, “What Is A Leg” pairs Clipper Erickson’s piano with Pfefferkorn’s impressive pipes via the bright storytelling, and “In Another Time” exits with Alexander Gil’s electric guitar interacting with Pfefferkorn’s unpredictable singing for the colorful finish.
An interesting mix of half recited poetry, half art song cycle, Altman’s vision is minimal but effective in its profound and unconventional space.
