The North Carolina native and Nashville resident Nathan Evans Fox pens songs with themes of family, faith, labor and inheritance, and he’s got a lot of help for these authentic stories.
“Lots Of Beginning” opens with warm guitar and Fox’s deep pipes alongside thumping drums and subtle banjo, and “Little Bit Of Shine” follows with rich melodies and vivid storytelling that’s indebted to classic country ideas which recruits pretty female vocals.
“Landlords, Bill Lee, Etc” arrives in the middle and blends grit and heartfelt ideas into the rootsy climate, while “Negative Space” finds itself in intimate territory via the soft vocals and gentle guitar.
Arriving late, “Jesus and the Buck” offers a bare, folk influenced moment of beauty in a duet setting, and “I Know The End” exits with a similar stripped back quality that’s vulnerable and poetic.
Fox plays pedal steel, acoustic guitar, banjo, strings, keys, and aux percussion here, as he creates a thoughtful and articulate body of work that makes for a distinct and relatable version of Americana.
