The guitarist and singer-songwriter Dida Pelled pens a blues and jazz record, where Sullivan Fortner, Kenny Wollesen and Tony Scherr accompany her for the 9 mature and timeless tracks.
The stylish and warm “Dimples” starts with Pelled’s cozy guitar and soft voice alongside Fortner’s playful keys, and “Hesitation Blues” follows with Wollesen’s crisp drums that complement the smooth singing of the gentle blues and jazz hybrid.
“Since I Fell For You” and “Rosa Mae” land in the middle. The former benefits from a romantic mood that’s charming and calm, while the latter showcases the playful keys and strategic drums in the rich, groove filled album highlight.
“Blues In The Night” arrives late and allows for Scherr’s skilled bass to suit the authentic blues climate, and “Trouble” exits with Scherr handling guitar for the dreamy and poetic finish.
Pelled makes all these classic tracks her own, where the top notch rhythm section and meticulous keys add much allure via the sultry storytelling.
