Listen to Journey To Bowerbird
The trombonist and composer Joe Fiedler is joined by his Big Sackbut band for this 4th collaboration together, where 9 tracks are packed with brass fueled, jazz fun.
“Portrait Of Tito Matos” opens with Marcus Roja’s bright tuba and Satoshi Takeishi’s playful drumming adding much to the lively start, and “The Box” follows with the manipulated brass that segues into a rich and layered climate.
“Guiro Nuevo” lands in the middle and blends Fiedler, Ryan Keberle and Luis Bonilla’s trombones into a colorful mood, while “Elements Of Know” spends 7+ minutes mesmerizing us with its soft gestures versus busy bouts.
“Kingston” and “Go Get It” round out the record. The former surrounds the frisky drums with melodic horn interaction, and the latter isn’t short on rhythm, grooves and timeless jazz sensibilities.
An effort with much emphasis on timbre, tone, rhythm, harmony and melody, the trio of trombones give us a distinct listening experience that you’ll repeat again and again.
Travels well with: Zhengtao Pan Jazz Orchestra- Day By Day; Rob Garcia- Sizzle Ensemble
