The double bassist Jon Hamar is joined by Adrienne Fontenot’s piano for these selections of rarely heard and newly realized works.

The title track, by Frederic Mompou, starts with 9 segments, where Hamar’s emotive bowing on the bass can rumble, too, as the graceful keys help illuminate the eloquent delivery.

Following that, David P. Jones’ “Winter Crows” moves cautiously with a moody appeal, while “Back To Blues” illustrates playful picking from Hamar in the solo setting of the John Clayton piece.

Close to the end, Ned Rorem’s “Nocturne” pairs the agile bass amid bright keys that make for a lush album highlight, and Hamar’s “Mosaic” exits with the meticulous strings and intimate keys interacting with poeticism and warmth.

A highly sophisticated endeavor, Hamar and Fontenot play off each others strengths superbly, where the timeless classical presence is much appreciated.
