8/10
The jazz vocalist Carolyn Lee Jones returns with a 6th studio album, where a large cast is on hand for the 9 heartfelt songs.
The warm spirit of “Skylark” opens with Jones’ smooth voice alongside playful bass lines and Andrew Griffith’s fluid drums, and “Detour Ahead” follows with a glowing intimacy via the heartfelt singing and light drums.
“That’s What Being In Love Is All About” lands in the middle and recruits dreamy guitar lines that suit the poetic singing and heartfelt vocals, while “Out Of Nowhere” bops and shakes with an infectious energy that’s contagious and upbeat.
Close to the end, “Morning In Crown Heights” enlists soulful sax that complements the expressive singing, and exits with “Hearts Desire”, where the meticulous keys from Brad Williams aligns with Jones’ captivating pipes.
An eclectic outing that embraces standards, personal connections, Brazilian and Latin textures, Jones brings us on an eloquent and timeless journey thanks to her esteemed vocal jazz presence.
