The Blasts
Self-Released, 2025
8/10
A Seattle trio with a penchant for rock from decade’s past, these 6 energetic tracks make for a fine introduction to The Blasts.
The animated “Big Gun” starts the quick listen with Donnie Staff’s thumping drums and Jason Bordeaux’s lively bass that suits Sean Dolstad’s tuneful pipes, and “Red Van Dealer Man” follows with Dolstad’s spirited guitar licks alongside the dense rhythm section.
In the middle, “Get In Line” brings plenty of timeless hard rock flavor to the melodic sensibilities, while “Shout n’ Twist” showcases intricate guitar and firm drums amid the bouncy bass for the EPs best.
Late in the record, “It’s A Long Way Down” invites singing-along thanks to the memorable chorus and charged rock’n’roll spirit, and a different version of “Shout n’ Twist” exits with Chris Schanz providing synth for another avenue of The Blasts’ timeless appeal.
Seattle is historically never short on exciting rock bands and we can certainly add The Blasts to that list, who will easily strike a chord with fans of Fu Manchu, Redd Kross or even KISS.
