8/10
The esteemed guitarist Yotam Silberstein puts his creative spin on 8 standards here, where John Patitucci, Billy Hart and George Coleman are in attendance.
“Serenata” starts the listen with Silberstein’s glowing guitar amid Hart’s frisky drums in the stylish and warm climate, and “Beija Flor” follows with a calmer approach of dreamy song craft, where the intimate guitar is met with subtle bass lines.
“If I Loved You” occupies the middle spot, and is a rich and cautious album highlight, while “Eclypso”, by Tommy Flanagan, spotlights Hart’s skilled drumming that suits Silberstein’s meticulous guitar.
Deeper onto the back half, Coleman’s stunning sax prowess illuminates the timeless jazz appeal of “Never Let Me Go”, and “Stella By Starlight” exits with clever bass, smooth guitar and gentle drumming populating the breezy finish.
A very precise and admirable interpretation of classic songs, Silberstein and his associates inject blues and bebop ideas into the affair, too.
