Gil Livni’s guitar is joined by Amit Friedman, Yonatan Rosen and Yonatan Riklis for 10 diverse tracks that expand playfully from jazz ideas.
The very quick and exciting “Wonder Woman” starts with Livni’s incredible guitar playing alongside Riklis’ warm organ, and the title track follows with Friedman’s rich sax playing that suits the rich and melodic mood.
Landing in the middle, the intimate spirit of “I Thought About You” showcases Livni’s heartfelt guitar amid Rosen’s cozy drumming, while “Granted” offers a lively and meticulous album highlight that flirts with rock ideas.
Close to the end, “Red Bird” moves fast and with much chemistry between the quartet, and “Gentleman’s Blues” exits with an indeed bluesy spirit via the soulful sax, crisp drums, well timed keys and, of course, fluid guitar playing.
A body of work that incorporates hard bop, swingin’ fun and no lack of grooves, Livni and company flesh out a first rate, jazz guitar effort.
