Listen to Live In Beverly Hills

The legendary jazz guitarist Doug MacDonald is joined by Lou Shoch and Billy Paul for this live set captured in 2012, where the 7 songs don’t sound at all dated.

The lively spirit of “Samba De Orfeu” starts with MacDonald’s animated guitar amid Shoch’s playful bass, and “Unimpressed” follows with Paul’s drumming acrobatics alongside the speedy grooves.

Moving along, the meticulous “Mall Blues” allows for the energetic rhythm section to complement MacDonald’s warm guitar, while “Baubles, Bangles and Beads” uses the infectious bass lines to accent Stryker’s rhythmic guitar.

“Yesterdays” exits, and it’s a smooth and intimate take on the Jerome David Kern tune that employs the trio’s chemistry superbly.

A straight ahead effort that’s technical and easily accessible, MacDonald continues to release one excellent guitar fueled jazz album after another.
