My Life So Far
Self-Released, 2024
8/10
An album of originals and a co-write with Garth Brooks, the hitmaker and Nashville Hall of Famer Kent Blazy brings us songs that document his journey to his position as a legendary songwriter.
The thumping drums and warm guitar of “One Big Love” starts the listen with Blazy’s smooth pipes guiding the melodies, and “Feeling Alive Again” follows with playful bass lines amid the intimate song craft that’s heartfelt.
Further along, “Who Really Rescued Who” offers a hint of ruggedness via the detailed storytelling, while “Still My Only Child” showcases grit in Blazy’s pipes, where the emotive quality is very much appreciated.
Deeper still, the thick and rowdy “Nature Of The Beast” pounds with a more intense approach, and “For A Minute There (Full Demo)” exits with a calm and dreamy demeanor of beauty and grace that’s vulnerable and poetic.
A album that illustrates where Blazy is now and surrounds the death of 2 people who had an impact on him in his 20’s, you might be reminded of legends like Fleetwood Mac, Neil Young, Springsteen, Jackson Browne and Van Morrison when spending time with these 11 songs,
