Listen to How Deep Is The Ocean
The NYC jazz singer Yuka Mito interprets 7 standards in her own distinct vision, where Hiroki Morioka, Iwao Masuhara and Yoshifumi Nihonmatsu are in attendance.
The frisky “Too Darn Hot” showcases Mito’s flowing voice amid Morioka’s meticulous keys and Masuhara’s lively bass lines, and “Close To You” follows with intimate piano that suits Mito’s poetic pipes that emit much beauty.
In the middle, “How Deep Is The Ocean” spotlights the strategic bass and Mito’s impressive range in a bare climate, while “How High The Moon” is a lively album highlight where Nihonmatsu’s animated drums shine.
“Corcovado” exits the listen, and it’s a sophisticated and rich delivery of pretty keys, soft singing and subtle drums and bass for an emotive finish.
A fun listen that can swing just as it can tug on the heartstrings, Mito and her Japanese musicians do justice to these classics with a fresh coat of paint.
