Demetris Yiasemides and Eva Stavrou make up Copper Curios, and this debut album sees their experimental and classical influences unfold across 6 very unique tracks.
“Turning World” begins with a chilling ambience, as the rich winds emit mysteriousness amid the warmth, and “Still Point” follows with elegance and poeticism thanks to the melodic flute.
“Flow” and “Echoes” land in the middle. The former buzzes with intrigue in a sci-fi sort of way with bright bouts of piccolo, while the latter turns minimalism into a refined science, where light percussive ideas and striking tonality from the winds make an impression. “Memories” exits, and it’s a layered and reflective mood of beauty and grace.
Stavrou handles flute and piccolo, and Yiasemides navigates flute, trombone, sylphyo, and electronics. Together, they bridge organic and synthetic ideas into a sonic formula of melodies, beats, improvisation and much creativity.
