The Morlocks
Bring On The Mesmeric Condition
(Hound Gawd)
It's been pretty close to a decade since we've heard anything new from the long running San Diego garage rock outfit The Morlocks. Currently on the 2nd version of the band with frontman Leighton Koizumi still at the helm, nowadays they call Germany home and are armed with members of Fuzztones and Link Wray.
Though this might be The Morlocks with the most esteemed musicians on board, the songs are still packed with gritty, reckless '60s and '70s energy, often sounding more like a retro band from Detroit. While the rowdy flair of icons like The Stooges and New York Dolls are easy to spot here, varied moments of acoustic guitar and even cinematic psychobilly reminiscent of The Cramps with harmonica solos are also present, making this a highlight in a long, sometimes fractured but always punk inspired career.
