Sound Of The Hunter
The Shadow Of The Light
(Self-Released)
4/5 Stars
A trio from Seattle with a penchant for the darker side of indie-rock, the outfit also bring cellos and violins to the affair, pointing towards a very emotive and intimate listen. Front woman Natalie Bayne has a looming set of pipes on her, often being reminiscent of Siouxie Sioux, and music follows suit with plenty of goth and post-punk tendencies.
Later on, however, the tunes become a bit more optimistic, approaching a more rugged Natalie Merchant, but still retaining a heavy mood that outfits like New Order popularized. A really intriguing listen, it's amazing to follow the transition of the 7 tracks from ominous and dark to lush, singer-songwriter sensibilities with keys. There's a lot of potential here- future releases should be nothing short of exceptional
