Rue Snider
City Living
Self-Released, 2018
10/10
A Brooklynite with a penchant for '80s sounds while possessing a healthy sense of songwriting prowess, it won't take long for Snider's breezy alt-rock and reflective stories to make you a fan. Based on his early days in New York and falling in love in Manhattan, Snider uses some Johnny Marr influenced guitars and plenty of power chords on this unassuming and fantastic album.
Though the wordplay is on the darker side, it's an upbeat, summery listen of glorious melodies and some hazy '60s moments, where synth moments and gritty indie-rock that host violins, cellos and mandolins make this one of the year's best. Play this alongside a Jesse Malin album loudly and repeatedly for best results.
